New Bathroom

Over our christmas vacation we ripped out our old ugly, dingy bathroom and we are about 80% done. We previously had an ugly gray 2 person whirlpool tub that had a mold problem and a tiny shower stall that was very dark. Plus we had no storage. Now we have a normal sized air jetted tub with a shower surround. We tiled the floors in kind of a retro style. We hope to have an area of open shelving and a closed off linen closet.

Two Rooms Done

We pretty much have our guest bedroom and office completely done. We are taking a small breather so that we can catch up on personal time. I personally have a business trip and a horse show.

New Floors

A few weeks ago I ordered the cheapest flooring that I could find. Which was 5" white pine. This seemed to be fairly historically accurate for my old house so I bought it (the wood on our staircase landing is 5" wide pine). The price was .99/sq ft. I bought it from lumber liquidators so I was able to have shipped for free. This also saved me a day of vacation since I could pick it up on the weekend vs staying at home and waiting for the delivery truck.

Anyway we ripped out the carpet and discovered that we already had 5" pine floors. We tried to investigate what the floors were underneath the carpet but all we saw was plywood which had been used as a small ramp. At first I was furious but after we thoroughly investigated the floors we decided that they probably couldn't have been salvaged.

So then we laid the floors and performed all the tedious work of sanding and staining. Now we have beautiful dark wood floors. I love them.

Summer Fun

Well I am done with winter and I am ready to get going on the house again. I have finished the floors in our living room (picture) and have decided that I will install new "matching" floors in our bedrooms this morning. I am going to get the cheapest 1-1/2" flooring from Hurst Hardwoods. I believe it should be cheaper than installing carpet. yippee...

We have some major landscaping to do this summer. But I can't afford to buy nice plants so I have been trying to find seeds for everything I want to grow. It's been so so, but I have only spent about 20 bucks.

Planning for next year

I have had a busy few weeks trying to restore our hardwood floor and the large moldings in the living room. Below is the checklist that I have used in the past of items that need to be done - updated

Paint all doors - One done - many left to do
Repaint main bathroom, I dislike the color I originally painted it-Whole bathroom needs redo
Install tile floors in main bathroom - see above
Install new toilet in bathroom
Finish rehabilitating the original molding of the living and dining room - Entry area still needs to be done
Finish the staircase - Half done
Replace upstairs windows - Done
Refinish downstairs hardwood floors - Half done
Move cold air return so that the original pocket doors can be installed - Done
Replace downstairs windows - Done
Get new sliding - Done
patio door for the kitchen- not going to do
Paint dining room - Done

I will update my progess on my floor and trim at a later date.

Done!!!!!

All that is left to do is a little touch up work and to get gutters put back up. Finally...

Almost done

Well not really. We have moved on to the last section of the siding. I am a little worried that we won't finish before winter, but as long as we get the insulation blown in and the house wrap up I'll be happy.

Oh yeah. I tiled our entry way with slate tiles that we found on sale at Lowe's
